Founder member Natalie Pinnock-Hamilton, MBE
"I became involved in voluntary community work from an early age and this has led to my being instrumental in setting up a number of organisations in Huddersfield and surrounding areas, such as HUDAWI Cultural Centre, Huddersfield Sickle Cell Support Group, Carnival Committee, Sadeh Lok Housing Association and Education 2000, working with children and young people. Also a member of Kirklees
Community Association, Police independent Advisory Committee and Voluntary Action Kirklees.
As a former director of the west Yorkshire Forget Me Not Childrens’ Hospice, I was involved in setting this up locally, preventing children and families having to travel many miles to access this service.
Employment history includes that of Assistant Community Relations Officer for Kirklees Community Relations Council; Chief Executive at Rastrick Youth Forum; Principal Community Development Officer with Leeds City Council’s Equal Opportunities Unit; Northwest Co-ordinator for the Afiya Trust and National Black Carers Network which involved me sitting on the government’s Health and Social Care Task Force. I was also appointed as a non executive director to the former Kirklees and Calderdale Health Authority.
Other positions include Healthwatch Kirklees, Department of Health initiative, keeping a watchful eye on health and social care provisions and Cloverleaf Advocacy. In addition, I also run Reach
Performing Arts for young people. It was as a result of my work in the community that I received an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List
of 2000."

HISTORY
Education 2000 began in the year 1999 as a community response to decreases in the educational attainment of African Caribbean children and young people, within the educational system.

The organisation was also formed to help address the growing unrest between the diverse communities of Kirklees.

We believe that we can increase cultural understanding and sensitivity through positive engagement and education.
Our slogan is:“Each One To Teach One”

Education 2000 is a registered charity that exists to work predominantly but not exclusively with African Caribbean communities in the North of England, with the aim of tackling inequalities and racism and helping to develop a more equitable society.
